What is Blepharoplasty?
The eyes are a central and expressive feature of the face, and their appearance plays a significant role in overall facial aesthetics. However, excess skin or fat accumulation in the upper or lower eyelids can result in a tired or aged appearance, and in some cases, may even impair vision. At Aesthetica Plastic Surgery, our highly skilled and experienced surgeons perform blepharoplasty to address these concerns. This procedure involves the careful removal or repositioning of excess tissue to restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance while maintaining the natural character of the eyes.
Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on the patient's needs. In addition to its aesthetic benefits, the procedure may improve eyelid function and visual field in cases of severe upper eyelid ptosis. Our Surgeons combine technical precision with an artistic approach to achieve results that are both subtle and transformative.

Journey To Confidence
At your consultation, you will meet with our patient care team to review your medical history as well as your goals for surgery. You will then meet with your surgeon to discuss the details of the procedure, recovery, and expectations as well as create a surgical plan to achieve natural, youthful results. Please come to the office with no makeup, a low collarless shirt, and your hair pulled back. Our office staff will provide you with a surgical quote and assist in scheduling a surgery date.
You will have a pre-operative appointment three weeks prior to surgery. At this appointment, you will sign surgical consents, discuss any last minute questions and concerns, get your pre surgery goodie bag and get further pre- and post-surgery instructions. Photos will be taken at this appointment so please come with no make up, a low collarless shirt and your hair pulled back.
You will arrive at our accredited surgery center about an hour before the procedure begins. You will meet with our incredible surgical team to get you comfortable in preparation for your upcoming procedure. The procedure typically takes between 1-3 hours after which you will recover in our post surgical recovery room until your caregiver arrives to pick you up.
After surgery, you may experience bruising, swelling and tenderness in the upper and lower eyes. Some patients will have temporary dry eyes or irritation. This should subside within the first couple weeks after surgery. Sutures are removed around 5-7 days after surgery. Make sure you to walk frequently, drink lots of fluids and eat or drink protein to aid in a smooth recovery.
Bruising and swelling will peak around 3-5 days. Make sure to take your Bromelain and Arnica to minimize the effects of bruising and swelling. You will need to avoid strenuous activity for the first 2-3 weeks. Make sure to keep your head elevated, stay hydrated and get plenty of rest to aid in healing.
Blepharoplasty surgery results in a more rested and youthful appearance. Results typically last 5-10 years. Aging will continue but the initial improvements provide long-lasting, natural results.

Surgical Technique
Depending on the nature of the eyelid surgery, general anesthesia or local anesthesia will be used.. This surgery may be done on the upper eyelid alone, on the lower lids, or a combination of both upper and lower eyelids.
- Upper
Upper Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure used to remove excess skin, muscle and sometimes fat from the upper eyelids. Typically, a small incision is made on the upper lid hidden within the natural crease to minimize visible scarring. - Lower
Lower blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure used to rejuvenate the lower eyelids by removing or repositioning excess fat, skin and muscle. It targets under-eye bags, deep tear troughs and sagging or bulging skin. Typically, a small incision is made inside the lower eyelid to avoid visible scarring although there are different techniques that can be used depending on what needs to be done. Some patients may opt to add on a Co2 laser resurfacing treatment around the eyes to address the fine lines and crepey skin which can be done in conjunction with the upper and lower blepharoplasty.
What to Expect
Following blepharoplasty, patients are advised to take several days of rest and refrain from strenuous physical activities to support optimal healing. The application of cold compresses can assist in minimizing postoperative discomfort, swelling, and bruising. While the results of eyelid surgery are long-lasting, it is important to recognize that the natural aging process will continue over time.
To maintain and enhance surgical outcomes, patients may consider adjunctive non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments available at Aesthetica Medical spa. These treatments—including dermal fillers, chemical peels, and laser therapies—can further improve skin texture, volume, and tone, contributing to a more youthful and refreshed appearance. Combining surgical and non-surgical approaches allow for a comprehensive, long-term facial rejuvenation strategy tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
Common Results:
- Improved vision
- Lowered discomfort by eliminating friction from skin creases
- Resolved puffiness in the lower lids
- Amplified shape and appearance of the eyes
- More present, alert expression
- Reduced sagging and/or hanging skin in the upper and lower eyelids
- A younger, refreshed look
