Implant Removal with Lift

Some patients decide they no longer want breast implants and choose to have them removed..  There are different techniques for removing implants. Traditional implant removal includes removing breast implants as well as the capsule, which may be removed in pieces or as a whole.. A capsule occurs with virtually every foreign object that is placed inside the body. It is a scar-like shell of collagen fibers that encases the object and is usually harmless under normal circumstances. Sometimes the capsule can grow very thick and tighten around the breast implant causing discomfort.

After implant removal, some patients may choose to undergo a breast lift (Mastopexy) to improve the shape and contour of the breasts. Since breast implants provide volume and support, removing them can sometimes lead to sagging or loss of upper pole fullness. A breast lift can help reshape the breast tissue, reposition the nipple, and create a more lifted, youthful appearance. The need for a breast lift varies depending on skin elasticity, breast size, and personal aesthetic goals.

At Aesthetica Plastic Surgery, our surgeons bring over 25 years of combined extensive experience and have performed thousands of breast implant removal procedures. They are proficient in a full range of implant removal techniques, including En Bloc implant removal which involves the careful extraction of the implant along with the surrounding scar tissue capsule as a single unit, which can be particularly beneficial in cases involving implant rupture, capsular contracture, or suspected implant-related complications. Your surgeon will evaluate your individual needs to recommend the most appropriate approach, prioritizing your safety, comfort, and desired aesthetic outcome.

At your consultation, you will meet with our patient care team to review your medical history as well as your goals for surgery. You will then meet with your surgeon to discuss the details of the procedure, recovery and expectations as well as create a surgical plan to achieve natural, youthful results. Some patients may not need a lift depending on the size of your implants and amount of breast tissue present. Our office staff will provide you with a surgical quote and assist in scheduling a surgery date.

You will have a pre-operative appointment three weeks prior to surgery. At this appointment, you will sign surgical consents, discuss any last minute questions and concerns, get your pre surgery goodie bag and get further pre- and post-surgery instructions. Photos will be taken at this appointment.

You will arrive at our accredited surgery center about an hour before the procedure begins. You will meet with our incredible surgical team to get you comfortable in preparation for your upcoming procedure. The procedure typically takes about 3-4 hours after which you will recover in our post surgical recovery room until your caregiver arrives to pick you up.

After surgery, you may notice some bruising, swelling and inflammation. If the breast capsule is removed, you will likely have drains for 2 weeks. Make sure you are walking frequently, drinking lots of fluids and getting lots of protein to aid in a smooth recovery.

Bruising and swelling will start within 1-3 days. Make sure to take your Bromelain and Arnica to minimize the effects of bruising and swelling. You may feel tightness, tingling, and numbness that should start to subside over the next couple of weeks. It is recommended to avoid strenuous activity for the first 2-4 weeks. Make sure to stay hydrated and get plenty of rest to aid in healing.

Patients may experience improved comfort by removing implants and lifting and tightening the excess skin. The incisions will continue to lighten and fade over several months. Final results can take up to 4-6 months.

Who is a candidate for breast implant removal?

You may be a candidate for breast implant removal if you currently have breast implants and no longer wish to have them, or are experiencing discomfort or other implant-related concerns. During your consultation, your surgeon can help you make that decision to remove or replace the implants.

Can I do a breast lift at the same time as an implant removal?

It is very common to have a breast lift at the time of implant removal surgery to address the sagging breast tissue and to restore a more youthful shape. Combining these procedures prevents a deflated look, removes excess, stretched skin for improved breast appearance. Some patients may only need implant removal if they have good elasticity with limited excess breast tissue.

What will my breasts look like after breast implant removal?

Following implant removal, the breasts may initially feel softer and appear less full, which is a natural part of the healing process. Over the next six months, the body’s natural healing promotes tightening and gentle reshaping. Many patients find that combining implant removal with a breast lift enhances their results, creating beautifully restored, lifted, and youthful contours that boost confidence and satisfaction.

How much does breast implant removal cost?

Breast implant removal starts at $3,900 for removal without a capsulectomy and starts at $6,900 if a capsulectomy is required. This pricing includes operating room fees, anesthesia, and surgical fees. A personalized quote will be provided following your consultation.

How can I reduce the appearance of scars after implant removal?

Various laser therapies and topical treatments are available to improve the appearance of scars. The V-beam laser is highly effective in reducing scar redness, while CO2 lasers can enhance overall scar texture and smoothness. Additionally, silicone gels and sheets are typically introduced around two weeks post-surgery to support optimal healing and minimize the visibility of incisions.

What is recovery like for implant removal surgery?

Patients should refrain from strenuous activity for the first 2 weeks after surgery. Patients may have drains placed for approximately 2 weeks after surgery depending on the type of implant removal that is performed. Most patients can resume normal activity by 2-3 weeks.

Are there risks involved with breast implant removal?

As with any surgical procedure, breast implant removal carries certain risks, including infection, hematoma, and seroma. Fortunately, these complications are uncommon, and careful surgical techniques help minimize their occurrence.
